While most Irish people can barely go a day without worrying about money, whether it be credit card bills, mortgage payments or simply the weekly shop, there are some Irish citizens who are living the highlife. Heres a thought to warm the cockels of your heart; Denis O' Brien is worth $4.2 billion, making him the 254 richest person in the world.
Poor old Denis is the richest Irish citizen though. That honour falls on Pallonji Mistry, the Mumbai based Paddy, who is worth $8.8 billion, making him the 103rd richest person in the world.
John Dorrance III, the US-born heir of the Campbell Soup empire has a fortune of $2.4 billion, while Martin Naughton, founded Glen Electric in 1973 and acquired Dimplex four years later, is at 651 on the list with an estimated fortune of $1.9 billion.
Financier Dermot Desmond has a net worth of $1.6 billion, according to Forbes. He features at 782 on the list. He founded NCB Stockbrokers in 1981, selling it in 1994 and putting the proceeds into private equity firm, International Investment & Underwriting. He was also instrumental in establishing the IFSC in Dublin.
